Citizens Working To Protect Idaho Families In Our Energy Future

Idaho Families For The Safest Energy

Citizens from across the state have formed a steering committee, to stop the nuclear power plant invasion of Idaho. We are all independent minded people, who have united in this effort to protect our family’s energy future, for generations to come. We also fight for a full clean up and removal of ALL the plutonium dumped over our water supply at the Idaho National Engineering Lab. We also want to stop the dumping of radioactive sand imported from Kuwait. We were unable to obtain enough signatures for our Initiative, in the short 2 months left after Warren Buffet’s announcement he wanted to build a merchant nuclear power plant in Payette. But we appreciated the great statewide response, and will stay organized on many the many issues, and will probably try the Initiative again next election cycle, allowing the usual 18 months to obtain the required signatures. We will continue to educate fellow Idahoans and media on these important issues.

PLEASE CONTACT US at info@myidahoenergy.com if you want information sent to you as it comes up, or have questions, or want to contribute , or use Box 5022 Twin Falls, Id 83303, or call 208-734-3338.

We advocate adopting laws used by other States, to stop these unwanted nuclear plants, in our right side column. Those laws basically say, 1) No new nuclear plants until a final waste repository is open, and 2) If the waste repository is ever opened, if the local county grants a permit, a citizen’s statewide vote must approve it, before a final permit is granted.

With native Idaho homesteading roots, we have ex-Republican Jerome County Commissioner Diana Obenauer. Diana is a great Gulf War veteran R.N. She is well aware of the constant pressure from local tensions that County Commissioners face daily. Diana always stands tall, though, where other County Commissioners may not. Diana is a Republican County Commissioner, recommending County Commissioners NOT make the lone decision on nuclear and coal plants, and she wants our Initiative to become state law. She has a Master’s degree in Public Administration and teaches nursing students. Diana will serve as our Treasurer.

Citizens from Jerome county, experienced from fighting off the merchant coal plant invasion from Sempra, are also on our steering committee. That includes Lee Halper, the citizen who filed local appeals on the Sempra permit, holding them at bay, so the rest of the Magic Valley had time to swing into action defending Idaho. Those coal permits and water rights are still for sale, and other coal proposals still pending, awaiting the end of the temporary ban on coal plants. Jerome citizens like Monica Brown, Xenia Williams, Ralph Friedemann, Cheri Condie, with Wid and Kathy Tanaka from Lincoln County, will all be on the steering committee, and want a permanent end to the merchant coal invasion, and this new nuclear invasion. Sempra coal downwinders from the South Hills, like Jim Sylva, add his families concerns on this merchant nuclear invasion, will also serve on our steering committee.

Life long clean energy advocate, Buhl’s Bill Chisholm, is adding his wealth of knowledge and dedication. His actions against nuclear waste dumping in Idaho, atomic testing aimed at Idaho, and much more, are too numerous to mention. For example, his Castleford Solar For Schools efforts, have shown positive results, that help all Idahoans.

Preston “J” Truman, from eastern Idaho’s Malad, also adds his life long experience in citizen action, trying to stop nuclear businesses from further damaging the health of innocent citizens. He speaks as a citizen on our steering, but please check his groups great work on atomic bomb testing and updates on the fight for RECA compensation for downwinders, in Idaho, Utah, and all over the world, at www.downwinders.org .

Boise citizen, solar advocate John Weber is adding his energy to the steering committee. Twin Falls based Carol Sperry and microbiologist Will Buhler, who won United Vision’s Grassroot Activists of the Year award, round out our steering committee with their years of thoughtful action.
